How EMDR therapy works
Many individuals have developed core negative beliefs about themselves.
Oftentimes, these negative beliefs developed and were reinforced through traumatic experiences in your life. You may experience a sense of over-responsibility, low self-worth, or a fear of abandonment, for example. EMDR therapy begins in thorough assessment of your experiences in order to determine what underlying negative belief(s) to target. Some individuals resonate less with negative beliefs, however, and instead report significant somatic experiences or emotional distress in their daily life, which connects back to prior negative experiences and learning. These experiences can also be targeted through EMDR.
EMDR Therapy is a phase based treatment approach, using bilateral stimulation to strengthen positive, helpful, and adaptive beliefs and experiences and reduce or eliminate the impact of negative beliefs, emotional stuck points, and somatic symptoms.
EMDR activates and supports the healing process that naturally exists within your brain and body. If you these experiences resonate with you, EMDR may be a good fit.
